The Regional Higher Education Conference (CRES-2008) in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, is coordinated by the Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) and the Ministry of National Education of Colombia, with the support of the Colombian Association of Universities (ASCUN) and the Andrés Bello Agreement (CAB).
CRES 2008 is characterized by the conception of higher education as a public good. It will reinforce strategic instruments for sustainable development and of inter-institutional and international cooperation as practices for fostering regional integration while seeking a development of a Common Area of Knowledge and Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean.

La Conferencia de Educación Superior (CRES 2008) en Cartagena de Indias Colombia es coordinada por el Instituto Internacional para la Educación Superior en América Latina y el Caribe (IESALC) y el Ministerio de Educación Nacional de Colombia, con el apoyo de la Asociación Colombiana de Universidad (ASCUN) y el Convenio Andrés Bello (CAB).
CRES 2008 se enmarca en la concepción de la Educación Superior como bien público y como instrumento estratégico de desarrollo sustentable y de la cooperación interinstitucional e internacional como prácticas de integración regional, buscando la conformación de un espacio común del Conocimiento y Educación Superior en América Latina y el Caribe.
